Alpacas and llamas

They are social animals so you need at least two, though uncastrated males shouldn’t be kept together. They need to be shorn annually and have their feet trimmed 3-4 times a year. Alpaca and Llama are prone to vitamin D and Thiamine deficiency so need to be given specifically formulated Alpaca pellets to provide supplementation.

Feeding pellets also help you maintain daily interaction with your animals.  Some pellets also contain zinc which is important for facial eczema prevention in summer and autumn.  Do not feed your alpaca any meal or pellets designed for other animals such as calves because they often contain ionophores which are poisonous to alpacas.
